This does not appear to be a SketchUp model! is the message when I try opening any of my many shared .skb files in my new Go plan subscription - the same files all open fine today in friends’ Pro subscriptions - can anyone help please ?
For the first time today I experienced the “Failed to open document”. After a little panic attack as my deadline is next week, I easily got it fixed. I copied the .skb file (which had the correct saving date and time, which the .skp didn’t) into another map and changed “.skb” to “.skp”. This solved my issue and I hope it helps you too.

I figured Sketchup would recover my file if I shut down, so I did, rebooted this AM and noticed file was nowhere to be found, eventually located it and noticed it was an SKB file. Followed all the research of converting SKB to SKP which I tried but now the file won’t open at all hence the “Failed to Open Document” prompt and blank space.
After a random restart of my computer I cannot find a backup file of my project anymore. Looked everywhere but no .skb file found. I checked in documents folder, in temp files …etc. just a previous version of the project…

Your SketchUp file is about 90% filled with zeroes. There’s nothing to recover from it. Where were you saving the file while working on it? Did anything happen to your computer while you were working? Have you tried renaming the .skb backup file to .skpp and opening that? Your profile says you are using SketchUp 2024 so you must have a subscription which includes unlimited Trimble Connect ...
As an aside, the file named “TP MASION.SKB.skp” shows that you tried to get the file to open by appending .skp to a .skb file. You shouldn’t need to do that, just replace the .skb with .skp. The reason for the lost work is that an .skb is crreated only when you save an .skp. It always the way the file was when you opened it, before further editing.
