Neither of the victims of the ICE shootings in Maine or Texas were the target of enforcement operations, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The walk back, confirmed by a White House official, came a day after ICE agents had been told to not engage in vehicle stops after deadly shootings in Maine and Houston.

It’s the latest example of how surveillance footage can undermine the government’s public statements, and a law enforcement expert told CNN it clearly demonstrates some of the poor tactics being used by ICE officers.

Trump ordered DHS to reverse its pause on ICE traffic stops, calling them one of the agency's most important crime fighting tools in a social media post.

"The agency needs to be torn down to the studs," Menefee said in a statement.
