The species that was brought back from extinction 🙌 Scimitar horned-oryx were extinct in the wild for over a decade, but through an international conservation collaboration we successfully restored their species. Through ZSL we contributed vital scientific expertise and on-the-ground support throughout the reintroduction effort. Did you know... 50 years ago, Oryx were released on White Sands Missile Range?! The Oryx are native to the Kalahari Desert in Africa. It was all part of the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish's desire to establish an exotic animal population in an area where there were few species of big game. The animal often makes its way to this side of the mountain, and this one was most recently spotted in Achenbach Canyon (Organ Mountains). Please keep your distance and do not engage. 📹: Josh Hunt (@j
